The client brief for ‘Central Park’, a 1 hectare size parcel of public open space within the developing residential subdivision of Yorkdale Estate was clear. We were to create a selling point for the estate and strong point of difference from other residential developments in the local area.
The public open space and associated playground design was achieved by collaborating closely with Adventure+ (playground manufacturer) to design the playground equipment which feature a 6 metre tall accessible tower and a range of climbing, sliding and swinging activities. This tower was the first of its type in Australia and has since been replicated in many different forms. The height of the tower creates a strong presence in the landscape and can be seen in the distance when approaching the park. Both the tower and landscaped mounds overlook the park, the stormwater treatment wetlands and surrounding residential developments and provide a vantage point for distant views to Mt Warrenheip and Mt Buninyong.
