Echuca River Boats, All- abilities Access

Client

Campaspe Shire Council

Collaboration

RMG (structural engineering)

The Echuca riverboat all-abilities access ramp and boardwalk is designed to provide all abilities access from the river frontage to the river boats.

Located within the Moama Historic Precinct, the ramp and boardwalk were designed to minimise the visual bulk of elevated structures, meet DDA access requirements and complement the site’s existing material character.

Developed in collaboration with Campaspe Shire Council, RMG (structural engineering), a heritage and an access consultant, the design accommodates complete periodic inundation during river flood events while protecting adjacent mature River Red Gums. Durable galvanised-steel structural and balustrade elements are paired with fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) decking.

Indigenous riparian planting was specified along the riverbanks to soften and screen the structures while helping manage erosion and sediment within the riverine environment.
