We were engaged by the City of Greater Bendigo to provide landscape design and detailed landscape documentation services as part of the redevelopment of the Heathcote Civic Centre building and its surrounding site.

The building is of historical significance, demonstrating the wealth of the Central Goldfields region. The project involves redevelopment and extension works to the existing building, together with landscape treatments to adjoining external spaces. In this instance, the key challenge is to deliver sensitive landscape treatments that respect and retain the building’s heritage character while also providing improved building subfloor ventilation and the creation of flexible external spaces suitable for small gatherings.

The proposed landscape design includes a new outdoor deck area designed to support multi-purpose events, integrated seating and a carefully selected plant palette. New compliant walkway paths and steps are also proposed to improve site amenity and accessibility.

Pyrenees sandstone paving and sitting rocks provide the canvas for creative aboriginal stone carvings designed by Emily Scarpini (Bimbat Creative).
