We are collaborated with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council (MRSC), the Friends of the Kyneton Botanic Gardens and Heritage Victoria on a SSDD’s for the Kyneton Botanic Gardens. Established in 1858, the gardens are home to a remarkable collection of mature specimen trees, 17 of which are recognised by the National Trust of Australia. The surrounding Kyneton Community Park offers an inclusive, nature-based play and water park experience designed for all ages and abilities.
The aim of the project was to ensure consistency in design, functionality, and aesthetic appeal, while also promoting sustainability, community engagement, and accessibility. At the same time, we wanted to preserve the historical character of the Gardens in central Victoria.
Our approach integrated both heritage and sustainability considerations. The research and benchmarking phase included reviewing the Master Plan and Conservation Assessment documents, analysing the existing furnishings in the Gardens, and benchmarking comparable design solutions from other heritage botanic gardens.
During the Design Development phase, we proposed cohesive, heritage-sensitive design details for each furnishing type, ensuring compliance with accessibility, safety, sustainability, and environmental standards. Stakeholder consultation was a key component of the project. We collaborated closely with MRSC staff, the Friends of Kyneton Botanic Gardens, and Heritage Victoria to gather input and feedback.
The final Suite of Standard Design Details is a comprehensive, site-specific set of asset design specifications developed for the Kyneton Botanic Gardens and Community Park which will be used for many years to come.
