Community consultation across the three northern townships of the Golden Plains Shire identified consistent township improvement themes focused on safety, accessibility, maintenance, and improved public amenity. The following key priorities have been incorporated into our design response.
Enhanced Pedestrian Safety: Introduce raised wombat pedestrian crossings at key activity nodes and implement targeted traffic calming strategies at high-risk intersections, notably Scarsdale.
Optimising Parking & Access: Rationalise car parking layout, particularly around the historic precinct in Smythesdale; provide long-vehicle bays near public facilities and improve wayfinding and accessibility.
Maintenance & Longevity: Upgrade and repair uneven pavements; replace / maintain existing street trees; replace / renovate street furniture; prioritise durable, low-maintenance plants and materials to ensure long-term performance.
Amenity & Walkability: Provide sheltered seating and enhanced bicycle facilities; upgrade footpaths to improve connectivity and accessibility; introduce low-maintenance garden beds to enrich visual amenity.
