Olympic Precinct, Lake Wendouree

Lake Foundation

Collaboration

As a result of the visionary initiative by the late Matt Jamieson, the Lake Foundation was formed to raise funds and lobby the City of Ballarat and the State Government to undertake some seriously needed foreshore improvements for Lake Wendouree, Ballarat.

This three year project resulted in us preparing landscape plans and overseeing improvements to a number of important foreshore precincts including Fairyland, Swan Pool, the Olympic precinct, Windmill Drive and the Yacht Club.

The Olympic precinct redevelopment was driven by a group of Ballarat Olympians to commemorate 50 years since the 1956 Olympic rowing events on Lake Wendouree.  We designed the memorial to highlight the values of the Olympic movement and to honour all Ballarat Olympians by bronze casts of their hands or feet.  The memorial was constructed by Ballarat builder H. Troon using the Olympic rings as the focal point.

Since 2006 we are proud to continue our association with this important place and we have completed ongoing design work within the memorial, including replacement of the concrete paths and sawn stone name bands, stainless steel interpretive signage and upgrades to the cauldron.
