Barooga Town Concept Plan

Client:   Berrigan Shire Council
Status:   Completed March 2018
Barooga is currently a quiet town with a handful of shops including a chemist, small IGA and a pub. The main street however, has a significant number of vacant lots. The presentation of the main street is dated and doesn’t meet current standards.
The Barooga Town Concept Plan considers the overall town and outlines a vision which is specific to Barooga. Focusing on a thriving future and highlighting the town’s natural assets. The individual projects in the Town Concept Plan have been developed with the community and Council to achieve significant, positive environmental, social and economic impact within modest and achievable budgets.

Vision for Vermont
The plan for the CBD focuses on creating a strong sense of town centre identity. By increasing road safety and function for both vehicles and pedestrians, the main street will be a more inviting place for both residents and visitors.

Rest in Barooga
The Town Concept Plan also aims to foster economic growth and social interaction by incorporating shaded public rest areas in the main street, parking opportunities for long vehicles and good facilities for truck drivers.

Be remembered for your trees
Trees have social, environmental and economic benefits. For regional councils, balancing resources and dealing with infrastructure requirements over large geographic areas, often means limited new street tree planting. We have worked with Berrigan Shire Council to develop long term plans for staged tree planting of the right species for each of their towns. They are already well underway to improving tree canopy cover, species diversity and micro-climates in the towns of Barooga, Berrigan, Tocumwal and Finley.
