Central Ballarat Garden
The bold contemporary architecture of this central Ballarat house provided strong themes that extended into the garden spaces.
The lineal shaped house was designed to maximise northern light into the internal and external living areas. The form of the house created a number of small external spaces that are viewed from within the house. A Japanese themed courtyard that opens from the living room allows western light into the house and provides a small sheltered and secure internal garden space.
A contemporary steel sculpture adjoins the central living space and outdoor deck and is sited to provide support for a climbing rose, with the aim being to improve privacy from adjoining neighbours. The landscape screen was required to look attractive from both sides of the fence - with or without planting.
