Lions Park Gunbower

Client: Campaspe Shire Council
Collaboration: Homewood Consulting Arborist, GTS, Cardno TGM, Zinc Cost Management, Rakali Ecological Consultanting, Access for All, Hutchinson Park Services
Status:  Documentation completed June 2021, Construction completed June 2022
Lions Park hugs the banks of Gunbower Creek near the centre of town. The Park has established trees, irrigated lawns and ageing infrastructure. It is a meeting and recreation space for visitors and locals and a gateway to the significant wetlands of Gunbower Island.

A concept plan had been developed in collaboration with the community. Our brief was to develop and expand the existing concept and provide documentation plans for the future  construction of the revitalised park. The new design includes:
  • Accessible footpaths,
  • Fishing platform and canoe launch
  • Natural play space with standard and custom nature play items
  • BBQ shelter,
  • Relocation of historical tractor display
  • Park furniture including seats, picnic tables, bins and flag pole renewal,
  • Trees and understorey planting
  • Riparian and aquatic planting along creek bank
  • Irrigated lawn

The upgraded parkland will be a great facility for locals and visitors. The canoe launch and nature playground will play an valuable role in visitors experience of the site.
