Moama Bridge Arts Precinct & Meninya Street Masterplan

Client:   Murray River Council and the Bridge Arts Commitee
Collaboration:    Terroir, Hirst Projects, MCa
Status:   Completed 201
The Bridge Arts and Meninya Street project will draws on the history of the settlement, the river environment and the landscape context to develop design responses which are deeply rooted in the place, unique and specific to Moama.

The Bridge Arts Precinct design concept aims to showcase a range of landscape experiences, using an elevated walkway journey - set in the tree canopy and looking down to the land below. The Pathway is designed to traverse the BAP from the Bridge Arts Centre at the heart of Meninya Street, through to the bank of the Murray River.
The journey provides an opportunity to showcase the vegetation communities of the area. Set amongst the trees, with framed views of a curated natural landscape, visitors to The Pathway will experience the landscape from different vantage points.

The new bridge will reduce large vehicle traffic through the Moama CBD and will provide a catalyst to improve Meninya Street physically, socially and economically. The streetscape concept aims to upgrade the existing street to a modern, accessible and green space for locals and visitors. Some of the proposals included:
  • Improving pedestrian connections and crossings
  • Introducing on-road cyclist lanes
  • Upgrading medians to introduce more trees
  • Updating public open space areas to support businesses and social interaction
  • Large scale parking to facilitate events at the Bridge Arts Centre
  • Introducing WSUD technology
  • Sculptural entry features to highlight Moama as an arts destination
  • Upgrades to the Soundshell precinct
