Floodway and drainage requirements necessitated a relatively large public open space for the size of the subdivision, so the budget was tight for this project. Completed over a decade ago, the wetland planting has established well and the reserve area now provides a shady, welcoming park for the whole neighbourhood.
Long term design success
We’d do things differently now to provide more planted safety batters and to facilitate maintenance access, but overall the wetland and reserve function well – both environmentally and socially. The indigenous species plantings have been carefully maintained and the wetland is getting close to a self sustaining model.
Simple and effective
The simple concrete bench form provides seating and somewhere for a family picnic. They are robust enough to withstand possible flooding and were built within a modest budget. The Ornamental Pears reference Mooroopna’s orchard history. They have established well and now provide good shade and seasonal colour
