Spring Gully Kindergarten

Client:   City of Greater Bendigo
Status:   Construction completed in 2017
Nature based play enriches ELC
The design of Spring Gully Kindergarten play yard combined nature-based play with loose parts play and some proprietary play equipment. The space includes a feature rock tunnel and slide, a large rock edged sand pit, water pump and play creek, small orchard with chook yard, quiet retreat spaces and cubby building areas. The design worked around many existing trees and retained an existing rubber surface bike track.

Natural features were introduced to the yard including rock work with some bird baths and potion bowls. A large gum tree which had to be removed has been reused on site as edging to gardens, log seats. A large section of the trunk was retained as a feature in the sandpit.

LMLA actively incorporated staff teaching philosophies, ideas from the Parents Committee and children and City Council requirements. The Kindergarten service provider’s needs and play standards were integrated into the design and document the play yard.

This project was completed by LMLA prior to merger with Thomson Hay Landscape Architects
